When Public Figures Become Catholic - Deep in Christ, Episode 80
Whether it's an actor, an athlete, an author, or an academic, when someone with a high public profile announces their interest in becoming Catholic, there can often be a wide variety of reactions from both the religious tradition they come from, and the new Church family they're joining.
And often, they're rushed into the spotlight and encouraged to begin sharing their story immediately.
JonMarc Grodi and Matt Swaim share how The Coming Home Network -- which was founded by a pastor who left public ministry to become Catholic -- thinks about the care of these souls, and how they encourage fellow Catholics to treat them as their new brothers and sisters in the Church.

Can Physical Things Be Spiritual? - Deep in Christ, Episode 79

In this final installment of our series on prayer, we look further at what the Catechism of the Catholic Church has to say about overcoming distractions in prayer. The Journey of Prayer Part 6: Failure at Prayer - Deep in Christ, Episode 77

Part of the journey of prayer will inevitably involve experiences of apparent failure. The Catechism of the Catholic Church identifies some of these: discouragement, dryness, hesitancy about what God may be calling us to do, and even the darkness within our own hearts. However, it is by exposing these things to the light that we can seek healing and forgiveness. The Church reminds us that it is...

I noticed that protestants who became Catholics are generally better Catholics than the 'cradle catholics. The former know what they missed and finally had it, while some of the latter just don't care what they got. Strong protestants indeed become good Catholic while weak catholics become protestants.

I hope too see you at the judgement throne some day. I want to hear you explain to God why you ignored the clear teachings of Jesus and the Apostles in regard to who Mary was, and elevated her to the divine status you now hold her. My answer will be simple. I will pull out my Bible and read what Jesus and His Apostles taught me, and clearly state, “This is what I held to. No more. And no less. All glory praise and honor to God alone.”

How do three Protestant teachers not have a full church history view of church doctrine? That is your problem. I have met Protestants such as yourselves. I never allowed such protestants to be my teachers nor my pastors. The Catholic reformers of the Protestant Reformation were still indoctrinated in some of the false teachings of the Catholic Church, but through them God recovered a people who would seek Him first and live by the authority of His word. Protestants fail, as do all men, but most are not held captive by false dogmas. Jesus did everything He could to indicate that His mother was not to be elevated or venerated, and His apostles demonstrated those teachings. You are the old Eve. The devil held up a false Mary and you ignored Jesus’ warnings and raised her up to godhood. You never asked the question, “Did God say that?” Because the answer is, no God did not say that, nor did Jesus, nor the Holy Spirit. That would be the Trinity. What you have now is a Quadrinity. And that is blasphemy.

The Trinity is a clearly defined doctrine that was understood by the Apostles and later given an obvious label. Nothing in Mariology mythology is clearly stated doctrine in the New Testament. The false doctrines occurred over time to reinforce previous false doctrines. None of it is clear doctrine. House of cards built on sinking sand. This isn’t theology. This is mythology and teachings of men. Why do you think Jesus spoke of His mother in common terms and none of your typologies are based on clear statements. Vague proving vague… Why didn’t Jesus point at Mary and say there is the New Eve! There is the Ark of the Covenant! Behold, the Queen Mother! Hey, the mother of God and your cousins would like to speak to you. Instead, there are three Marys, and states when she is wanting to speak to him while he is ministering, “Who is my mother?” The church of Ephesus is threatened to have its lampstand removed. Why??? Thyotokos. Artemis of Ephesus whose image had fallen; Mary worship, giving honor and glory and praise and authority reserved for God alone. You men have also deserted your first love, God the Father, and fallen. As you continue as false teachers, your lampstand will also be removed. Where was Mary traded for the image of Artemis of Ephesus? The council of Ephesus. The assumption? Ephesus. Jesus clearly tells us that the early church fathers would fail in this one teaching, in contrast to all their perseverances. You are proving Jesus true. Thyotokos was their one, and fatal error.

When David makes the statement as to why the Ark should come him, David isn’t happy. He is actually upset with God and terrified of the Ark because Uzza had tried to prevent the Ark from falling to the ground. And God struck him dead. David refused the Ark. Did Elizabeth refuse Mary? This is not a parallel incident. It is the opposite. This isn’t a theological typology.

  • @ctkjacobson466
    @ctkjacobson466 2 дні тому

The typology of Jesus is clearly stated, such as Jesus stating he is the bronze serpent. We then take the clear theological typology Jesus, or the apostles who wrote the New Testament gives us, and then we look to the Old Testament to clearly understand the meaning of the given typology. There are no clearly stated typologies of Mary in the New Testament. Jesus, nor anyone else clearly states that Mary is the Ark of the Covenant, or the Queen of Heaven, or the new Eve. Creating a doctrine that is unbiblical, then deciding if we say she is the Ark of the Covenant we can prove our new doctrine as a typology, so let’s go find something in the New Testament that has a shadow of metaphor; and there you go! We proved our unbiblical doctrine with not only one vague and incorrect typology, but by many vague and incorrect typologies. How to create a false doctrine becomes; “we really want this to be true, and we’ve already committed ourselves. So either it’s true, or we’re really really in trouble for leading over a billion Catholics into idolatry. This isn’t even bad theology. This is the fabricating of mythology. I hope to be there on judgement day to listen to you explain your doctrine which forces God to share His glory, honor, praise, authority and position with Mary, the mother of Jesus. I’m sure Mary, the humble servant of her savior, will also be interested in your theological circus explanation; for about a minute. Grown men 😞

I can see from what you are saying that you really haven’t read your Bible well and have not developed a living relationship with Jesus Christ our LORD while you were in the SDA Church and this makes me sad and praying that God’s Holy Spirit will move your heart to study again Bible and know about what God tells us in the Bible. I suggest that you read again the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) and fall in love with our LORD Jesus Christ. Also, try to read from Genesis to Revelation. I can also see that you were just starting/studying to become a minister ( but NOT really a SDA Minister just yet) as the title is this video. If you are sincere and truly loves God, He will guide you into ALL TRUTH. I was a Catholic and fell in love with our LORD, became a Seventh-Day Adventist because OF THE TRUTH THAT I FOUND IN THE BIBLE. What does the BIBLE SAY? Not what men say or what tradition say. Everything we believe and do MUST BE BASED ON THE BIBLE, THE WORD OF GOD. Above all, our salvation is ONLY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST (not through any saint or Mary) because it is Christ WHO DIED AND PAID FOR OUR SINS. May God guide you into ALL TRUTH IN THE BIBLE - SOLA SCRIPTURA, the BIBLE ALONE.

Real faith leads to good works through the power of the Holy Spirit in us, which is faith in Christ who nailed the mosaic law (Leviticus laws) to the Cross. We now can know God through the risen Christ and the Holy Spirit and he writes his law (Ten Commandments, Christ Jesus’s commandments) on our hearts. The kind of works Paul is mentioning is works without faith in Christ, but in self-righteousness and works of the Mosaic law (Leviticus laws) without the Holy Spirit.

The problem for me with being Protestant was I had no foundation to keep me in Christ. It is easy to be a part of the world and claim to be a Christian because, well, you are saved forever. So you can sin and just ask for forgiveness every day. There’s no real reason to go to church. You can watch church on tv. Because my heart wasn’t fully given to Christ, I was miserable, but I couldn’t stand going to church. I hate loud music and young preachers in skinny jeans that you never ever meet. You can find smaller more personable Protestant churches, but I was never able to commit myself to going. I prayed about this fervently before we found the Catholic Church. I would’ve never ever thought I would love the Catholic Church. I had never stepped foot in one until my husband out of the blue just went one Sunday morning. It was an answer to my prayers. At first, I had a bad attitude about it. I went with him eventually because he kept asking. I had no clue what was happening. Then I decided to start reading about it, beginning with the book Catholicism for Dummies, and I was amazed. A hunger developed in my heart for the Eucharist. Long story short, we are Catholics today and absolutely love Mass. It has grounded me in Christ, FINALLY! Catholic teaching is incredibly rich. So much now makes sense to me that didn’t when I was Protestant. Actually, I was confused a lot as a Protestant because I believed various teachings from different denominations. I could never figure out what church to go to. So I give glory to God for leading us to the Church. Jesus is my life and love and that is what Mass and being Catholic is all about.

Coming home. I know the feeling. There are Muslims who come home becoming Catholic. I did never come home...when I left reformed to pentecostal, to Catholic, to evangelical, to messianic, to adventist, to baptist. I see what they do: they change one set of rituals for the other. Do the rituals and you are OK. When you meet Jesus the church you're in is your church. You leave when it does not feed you spiritually or when it accepts sin. Living with Jesus is something totally different as coming home to a set of rituals.

I am thankful that we were brought into the church within six months of our request. Our Priest had a few classes for all of us, but my husband and I consumed books and teachings about the faith on our own too. We were more than ready to be Catholic. Your testimony about how hard it was for you made me think of growing up as a Protestant. I knew Catholics but none of them ever talked about being Catholic with me. Catholics where I lived simply didn’t evangelize at all. I am thankful it is much better now with social media - there is GOOD that comes out of it. But there was definitely a lack of interest from Catholics then to evangelize.

Minute 40.30 and following, I love this explanation of Eucharist! I wish 2 Corinthians 3 would be cited during this portion, or anywhere in this episode, especially verses 2Cor 3: 8 and 11 “the dispensation of the Spirit will be attended with greater splendor”, and “ what faded away came with splendor, what is permanent must have much more splendor.” The Old Testament covenants came with such splendor, the fulfillment in the Church will have much MORE splendor. The manna in the desert and water from a rock, was pretty amazing! The Eucharist in The Church is exceedingly MORE AMAZING! The Sacraments are more amazing than a rock spewing water. ( mere symbols and metaphors are far far less than amazing ) only the real thing can exceed the Old Testament prefigurements.
